My Story: An Unlikely Runner

I know what it’s like to be a beginner.

In early 2014, I couldn’t run to the end of my road. I measured distances in lampposts, not mile-markers. In truth, I spent more of my runs walking than actually running. Comfortingly, I told myself, ‘I’m just not athletic,’ or, ‘I’m not a natural runner.’

Later that year, I ran my first half marathon. Soon after, I ran a full one. Then another.

So, how did I go from feeling puffed-out to feeling pumped?  Well, it began with an unexpected offer and some ‘fighting talk.’
